On June 3, 2012 our daughter Jenny lost her daughter Grace Violet, as a result of the sudden onset of HELLP Syndrome, a severe and life-threatening variant of Preeclampsia. Born at 22 weeks our beautiful Grace was too premature to survive.
We loved Grace so much from the moment we knew we were going to be grandparents. We had so many plans and dreams for Grace but all in one day our hearts were devastated and our lives changed never to be the same.
Not only grieving grandparents, we were extremely concerned parents for Jenny’s health and emotional state. Jenny’s liver had already been affected and we were told that she was at risk of having a stroke or seizure. In addition to worrying for Jenny’s health, we went through emotional anguish of watching Jenny and our son-in-law, Adam, go through the incomprehensible pain of losing their first child.
Jenny was given excellent medical care while she was at Mount Sinai. It was at Mount Sinai that we had the privilege of meeting an amazing staff of doctors, in particular Dr. Kingdom. Dr. Kingdom and his colleagues are committed and passionate about women’s health and in the research of Preeclampsia/HELLP Syndrome.
While sharing our story with family and friends we quickly realized that we were not alone in not knowing or understanding what Preeclampsia/HELLP Syndrome was. In memory of our granddaughter, Grace Violet, and all other angel babies it is our heartfelt commitment to bring awareness and help raise money for the research of Preeclampsia/HELLP Syndrome.
Please show us your support with a donation and be part of establishing the Preeclampsia Foundation Canada.
Our heartfelt gratitude,
Violet & Zdenko Mateljan
